Malawi, a tiny country in Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the world’s poorest nations. Since 2005 Neighbours Aid has partnered with Malawi NGO Shekinah Education Foundation for Orphan’s Relief and Development in establishing a children’s home for orphaned and vulnerable children, two primary schools, a high school, medical clinic and farming initiatives – poultry, mushrooms, fish farm, macadamia and eucalyptus trees, and bee hives. These farming initiatives provide 50% of all food needed by the project and ensures that the project is moving towards self sustainability.
Each year leaders’ seminars which include healthcare, HIV/AIDS and nutrition are conducted in the villages. Nambour Christian College staff, high school students and parents participate in a bi annual trip which involves undertaking a practical project and classroom activities with the staff and students of the schools. Neighbours Aid partners work closely with Social Welfare, Education and Health Department officials in Malawi.
