WHO WE ARE
Our Mission – Neighbours Aid empowers vulnerable communities around the world through the development of sustainable projects.
Our Vision – Neighbours Aid will make a difference to the lives of some of the world’s needy children through the provision of education, healthcare and other initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of the people in the communities in which we work. We will raise funds through our opportunity shops, child sponsorship program, monetary donations and other approved means to finance approved projects in Majority World nations, empowering and enabling local leaders to change their nations one child at a time.
Our Story – The Neighbours Aid journey began in 2002 as a practical response to the question Jesus was asked in the story of the Good Samaritan,” Who is my neighbour?” The answer of course, is that anyone in need, regardless of race, colour or religion, is my neighbour, and we all have a responsibility to do what we can to help. Martin Luther King put it this way…”The Levite and the Priest asked themselves, ‘What will happen to ME if I stop to help this man?’ The Good Samaritan, the hero of the story, asked himself, ‘What will happen to HIM if I don’t stop to help him?’’ Since that time four opportunity shops have opened on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and one in Brisbane as the primary means of raising funds to finance projects in Majority World nations. A Child Sponsorship program and individual donations from supporters supplement the money raised from the sale of second hand goods in the shops. Interested people join self funded Helping Hands Working Expeditions to work on some of the projects. Partnerships have been developed between local businesses, churches, service organisations and Nambour Christian College on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
