Through our partnership with the Indian NGO Cross Culture, the Educare Project was founded. This project has established Activity Centres in a two slum communities, empowering young people to break free from the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. The Educare Project prioritise keeping orphaned and vulnerable children connected to their families, offering safe and caring homes when necessary.
Educare addresses the dropout crisis in Ultadanga and China Mandir areas, equipping children with the knowledge and skills to re-enrol in school and overcome generational poverty. We also offer vocational skills training to financially disadvantaged students, bridging the gap between work and education.
Education broadens horizons, instils values, and prepares children for life’s challenges. In addition, Educare’s medical camps provide vital health check-ups and treatments to underprivileged communities, ensuring early intervention and improved well-being.
In 2023, 114 children of slum dwellers attended our Activity Centres, where they were tutored in basic subjects and arts and crafts before being assisted to enter mainstream schools. At the same time their parents and older siblings received skill training leading to employment and access to medical camps. Many of these people are refugees from remote villages who receive no other assistance. In addition, a Freedom Vocational Training Centre opened in NW Bengal, with 55 young people graduating in its first term with skills that will help them find employment or start their own businesses.
