Neighbours Aid Empowering Women and Girls
Sadly, despite the amazing technological advances being made in the 21st century, the plight of millions of women and girls in Majority World countries has not changed. The sex trade, lack of access to education and medical care, inequality and gender based violence, child marriage and teen pregnancies all trap girls in a poverty cycle they are unable to escape from without assistance. With the long term closure of schools due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many girls will never return to school. Many in their early teens are pregnant and many have been married off by parents who are struggling to feed their families due to the closure of their businesses and unemployment.
Neighbours Aid is committed to helping break the poverty trap for many girls and women through:
- Education in our primary and high schools
- Vocational Training programs
- Home based businesses
- Literacy and wellbeing classes
- Tailoring Schools
- A Nursing College
- A Teen Mums home where the girls can continue their education while their babies are cared for
- Safe secure homes where girls can escape from abusive situations
NEIGHBOURS AID ASSISTING POOR FAMILIES DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWNS
Many poor families in the rural and urban slum communities that Neighbours Aid supports have been left without enough food and basic care during the lockdowns. Some day labourers living in slums in India were left without any food or support, hundreds of kilometres from their villages when the national lockdown was imposed with no warning. Our partners have been busy providing food and support to help the people survive months with no work.

HAPPY RETIREMENT LUKE
Happy retirement to long term Nambour manager Luke Zanetti. After 11 years, starting as a volunteer, Luke is RETIRING. After a break however, he is REFIRING, assuring us he will be back volunteering and helping us open new stores.
