Neighbours Aid E News August 2022

THE BIG SEWING BEE

A BIG heartfelt thank-you to all our wonderful customers, donors, and volunteers! We are thrilled to announce that $14,230.35 was raised during our eight-week promotion. This money will buy FIFTY-SEVEN treadle sewing machines for our tailoring classes in India and Kenya.

Fifty-seven women and girls will have the opportunity to learn new skills and establish a home-based business to provide for their families. They will begin to climb out of the poverty cycle that keeps many women and children throughout the world imprisoned in a life of food insecurity, lack of education and medical care and domestic violence.

Neighbours Aid continues providing not only education, healthcare and nutritious food, but also hope and pathways to a brighter future.

THE NEIGHBOURS AID FAMILY GROWING AND LEARNING TOGETHER

The Neighbours Aid family is large. It not only includes the thousands of people living in communities in Africa, India, Israel and Fiji, but over 400 volunteers and 21 full and part time staff members here in Australia who make it all possible. We are committed to the wellbeing of our family members both overseas and in Australia. Recently our managers attended a Professional Development Day with board member Helen Hall, a psychologist. Helen gave us many practical skills for caring for our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of our teams across our eight stores.

ISRAEL IN SPRING 2023

Prior to COVID, Neighbours Aid leaders John and Jesma O’Hara led yearly study tours to Israel that included visits to our two Israeli projects, Orr Shalom Childrens’ Homes and Project Sheba. Now that travel restrictions have lifted we are looking forward to giving people the opportunity to join us in March 2023 for two amazing weeks in the Land of the Bible.

“This is the ultimate moment of putting the world right. The world thinks it knows what justice is but again and again the world gets it wrong, favouring the rich and powerful, turning s blind eye to wickedness in high places, forgetting the cry of the poor and needy who the Bible insists are the special objects of God’s right and just care.”
